DriveScape is a dual-camera dashcam solution from Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT) that was developed specifically for the rideshare industry, and particularly for Uber drivers. DriveScape continuously records video from both inside and outside the vehicle and sends it directly to the driver’s phone as a record in the event of accidents or rider-related incidents.
Cambridge Mobile asked Manta Product Development (Manta) to support the development of DriveScape, including performing user research, industrial design, design for manufacturing, and thermal management.
Design Conceptualization
Manta conducted generative user research related to the installation, set-up, and use of the DriveScape system. Manta then translated the outputs from this research into specific user requirements for the product, which served as the basis for product conceptualization and detail design activities. The result was a sleek, unobtrusive product form factor and a unique, flexible windshield mounting system that enabled easy and intuitive installation and use across a wide range of vehicles and drivers.

Thermal Analysis
Temperature levels inside of a car can range from extreme heat to frigid cold depending on the geographic region and the time of the year. In addition, the DriveScape cameras and other internal components generate a significant amount of heat during use. Manta performed significant thermal modeling and analysis for DriveScape to arrive at an optimal thermal management design strategy, including the design of heat sinks, air flow pathways, enclosure venting details, and component placement locations.
