NETRA™ is a portable, smartphone-powered, self-test refraction tool for use in mobile eye diagnostics and vision screenings. The NETRA™ autorefractor, which is entirely patient driven, measures sphere, cylinder, axis, and pupillary distance through a series of game-like interactions in a virtual reality environment. NETRA's accuracy is similar to state-of-the-art auto-refractors used by Optometrists.
We were responsible for human factors, industrial design, and mechanical packaging of the device. Through significant human factors research and testing, we determined the optimal device shape and control positioning. Our mechanical engineering team took responsibility for the detail design of the device enclosures and interface elements.
The NETRA ranks as the lowest cost Portable Auto-Refractor among its peers. It is also the only device of the group that utilizes a smart phone for its display and processor, has twice the battery life, can survive a one-meter drop, and can be used by the patient alone without the need for a trained technician.
