Capable of imaging 1 million cells in 10 minutes, the PhenoCycler-Fusion System is the fastest spatial biology solution on the market. This leading-edge system enables ultrahigh-plex spatial phenotyping of whole microscope slides at single-cell resolution, and integrates automated fluidics and iterative imaging functionality.
Manta supported the PhenoCycler’s development by providing User Research and Usability Engineering, Industrial Design, Engineering Development, and Design for Manufacturing expertise.
Usability & Design
Key user interactions with the PhenoCyclerTM-Fusion System include the loading and unloading of the microscope slides containing the biological samples and the fluidic coupling of the slides to the fluidics system.
Manta performed user research to identify the user requirements for the instrument, conceptualized usability solutions, and tested these with key stakeholders and experts to arrive at an optimized usability design for the overall system.

High-End Brand Communication
Akoya Bioscience sought to establish a high-end brand presence with the PhenoCycler-Fusion System, which would both differentiate the company from its competitors and reflect the instrument’s field-leading multiplex imaging technology.
Manta’s industrial designers achieved this goal by developing a cutting-edge aesthetic design that includes sweeping enclosure shapes, translucent covers, prominent accent lighting details, and a bold color palette.

Engineering & Manufacturing
The PhenoCycler-Fusion System is a complex instrument that includes fluidics, robotics, and imaging technologies. The system architecture integrated multiple technologies, sub-assemblies, and was optimized for manufacturing.
